In the wave of globalization, Aigre has continuously expanded its overseas business, sending employees abroad to bring quality services and products to various countries around the world. Recently, two employees shared their expatriate experiences, showcasing their observations in cross-cultural work environments.
Chen Hong from the Technical Department: Faith and Ramadan in Guinea
Chen Hong's work experience in Guinea gave him a deep understanding of the unique cultural atmosphere there. Upon arriving, he was most surprised by the local people's religious beliefs. Everyone had a firm faith and prayed every day. During Ramadan, locals abstained from food and water during the day, only eating at night.
However, cultural differences also posed some challenges for him. Chen Hong noted that sometimes his unintentional actions might offend locals, so he needed to be particularly careful with his words and deeds in a foreign country. Language communication was his biggest professional challenge, and he had to strive to learn the local language to better carry out his work.
This expatriate experience had a positive impact on Chen Hong's personal growth. He learned to cherish his current life more and to view and face various troubles positively.
Che Rongjun from the After-Sales Department: Food and Mixed-Race People in Azerbaijan
Che Rongjun's work experience in Azerbaijan was equally rich and colorful. When he first arrived, he was most surprised by the local food and language. The staple food was potatoes and beef, with almost no rice, which was vastly different from domestic eating habits. The blend of Turkish and Russian in communication undoubtedly brought great challenges to his communication. However, he knew that to successfully work in this foreign country, he must overcome the language barrier. Therefore, he cleverly used modern technology – a mobile phone translation app. Whenever customers encountered difficulties operating the equipment, he would quickly open the translation app, input the solution, and patiently wait for the translated result. Through this method, he gradually helped customers master the equipment's operation and precautions, successfully completing the equipment training tasks.
Although he had multiple expatriate experiences, his observations in Azerbaijan still left a deep impression on him. He mentioned that there were many Eurasian mixed-race people with high noses and tall statures. However, the backward infrastructure made him hesitant to go out at night. Once in the park, he encountered two elementary school students who immediately asked for "money, money," making him somewhat amused and frustrated.
Furthermore, Azerbaijan's tea culture also impressed Che Rongjun. Locals spent a long time drinking tea; for instance, at 10 a.m., everyone would stop working for morning tea.
Through this sharing, we learned about Chen Hong and Che Rongjun's unique experiences abroad and the challenges and gains brought by cultural differences. These experiences not only enriched their personal horizons but also allowed us to better understand the cultures and customs of different countries.
